Making arrangements for your children following the breakdown of a relationship or marriage can be a difficult and stressful time, that’s when you require a family law solicitors to guide you.

We are a child-centered family law firm and take pride in our sensitive and practical advice that parents require to put the needs of their children first.

We aim to help to separate couples reach an agreement in relation to all aspects such as,

– Access

– Relocation

We help parents negotiate arrangements that best suit their children’s needs. We have a wealth of experience in resolving child-related matters and regularly advise on relocation proceedings. This is where one parent wishes to live in another country.

There are some circumstances whereby parties cannot reach an agreement and may need the assistance of the court and recommendations from an expert such as a child psychologist with regards to custody and access issues.

The terms child custody and child access can be confusing for people. If you have child custody, your child lives with you. Further, you have a duty to care for the child on a day-to-day basis. Child access is where you have contact and visit your child.

Married couples are joint custodians of their children and in most cases this does not change. For unmarried couples the situation is different. By default, an unmarried mother has sole custody of the child and automatic guardianship. An unmarried father can be an automatic guardian in some circumstances and can apply to the court if not. There is also the option for unmarried father to apply for custody and this may be granted in some situations.
